Environmental Award 2004 & 2005

Brighouse Bay Golf Club is very proud to have been declared Scottish Winner of the BIGGA Golf Environment Competition in 2004 and 2005. 

This well deserved award is a testament to the philosophy of Tom Gillespie, principal of Gillespie Leisure Limited, the owners of Brighouse Bay Golf Club, and the continued hard work of Head Greenkeeper, Richard Davis, and his staff at the club.

The judges were particularly impressed with the overall strategy at the club in respect of waste water management and water conservation.  And the storage of rainwater for use as irrigation will doubtless stand the Club in good stead in future years, given the likely constraints which will be imposed on water usage and management.

The linkage of ecological habitats on the golf course, by strips of irregularly managed rough grassland, allows a vast array of wildlife to frequent the golf course, and the wildlife information boards which are located throughout the course are useful educational tools.  Their level of information and the diversity of wildlife covered, bringing much useful and interesting information to all the users of the golf course.
