<Hole 3 || Hole 5>

Respect is needed on this short par 4. An iron from the tee sets up a short second into a small raised green.

 Climbing from the 3rd green to the 4th tee reveals the most fascinating permutations of sea dyke magic, the runs, slumps, curves, climbs and angles collaborating with sea, sky, cloud and cliff backdrop in changing vistas at every step. A solitary photographer stands steady as a tripod on the cliff top, awed and transported by the views. Is the Mull of Galloway really floating on a silver shard?

The 4th Hole itself:
Here, the tee has been tied beautifully into its dykeback setting with matching stone revetment and edgings, a design technique which pays similar landscape dividends at several other locations round the course. Playing away from the sea, the hole buoyantly surfs then swerves a plethora of grassy knolls dotted with yarrow, harebell, ladies bedstraw, tormentil and other acid-loving wildflower species, eventually leading to a green which boasts simply fabulous vistas across the entire lower course.
